Do You Have a Federal Pacific or Zinsco Panel?

These panels have documented safety failures. Breakers may not trip during overloads, creating a serious fire risk. If your home was built between 1960-1985, check your panel. Learn more in our free guide or schedule an inspection.

Common Questions

Electrical FAQs

How do I know if I need a panel upgrade?
Signs include: breakers tripping frequently, you're adding an EV charger or heat pump, your panel is rated at 60A or 100A, you have a Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel, or you're doing a major remodel. A 200A panel provides headroom for current and future electrical needs.
Is my Federal Pacific panel dangerous?
Federal Pacific (FPE) panels have documented safety issues — breakers that fail to trip during overloads, creating fire risk. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has investigated these panels. We strongly recommend replacement regardless of age.
How much does an EV charger installation cost?
A typical Level 2 EV charger installation in Utah runs $800-$2,500 depending on: distance from panel to charger location, whether a panel upgrade is needed, permit costs, and the charger itself. We provide a detailed quote before any work begins.
What's the difference between AFCI and GFCI?
GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) protects against electric shock near water — required in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, and outdoors. AFCI (Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter) detects dangerous arcing that causes fires — now required in bedrooms, living rooms, and most other rooms per NEC code.
Can I add a 240V outlet for my workshop/garage?
Yes. A 240V circuit requires a dedicated double-pole breaker (typically 30A or 50A) and appropriately sized wiring. We'll verify your panel has available capacity and run the circuit to code. This is not a DIY job — improper wiring is a fire hazard.
