500+ Reviews

Utah's water is among the hardest in the nation — 15-25+ grains per gallon in most areas. This level of hardness causes white scale buildup on fixtures, spots on dishes and shower glass, dry skin and hair, and reduces water heater efficiency by 20-30%. A properly sized water softener eliminates all of these problems.

The Details

What You Need to Know

Water softeners use ion exchange to remove calcium and magnesium (the minerals that cause hardness). Resin beads inside the tank attract and hold hardness minerals, releasing sodium ions in their place. When the resin is saturated, the system regenerates using salt water to flush the minerals and recharge the resin.

Sizing matters enormously. An undersized softener regenerates too frequently (wasting salt and water), while an oversized one sits stagnant (breeding bacteria). We calculate the right size based on your water hardness, household size, and daily water usage. A typical Utah home needs a 32,000-48,000 grain system.

We install high-efficiency softeners that use up to 50% less salt and water than standard models. Features include demand-initiated regeneration (regenerates only when needed, not on a timer), metered water usage tracking, and WiFi-connected models for monitoring from your phone.

Got Questions?

Water Softeners FAQ

?How hard is my water in Utah?
Most of the Wasatch Front measures 15-25+ grains per gallon (gpg). Anything over 7 gpg is considered 'hard.' Our free water test gives you the exact number for your home.
?How much salt does a softener use?
A properly sized, high-efficiency softener for a typical Utah home uses 40-80 lbs of salt per month, costing about $10-15/month. This is far less than the damage hard water does to your plumbing and appliances.
?Is softened water safe to drink?
Softened water adds a small amount of sodium (about 20-40mg per 8oz glass at Utah hardness levels). This is minimal compared to dietary sodium. For zero-sodium drinking water, pair with a reverse osmosis system.
?How long do water softeners last?
Quality softeners last 15-20 years with proper maintenance. Resin should be replaced every 10-15 years. We service all brands.
?Can I install a water softener myself?
While possible, professional installation ensures proper sizing, correct plumbing connections, drain routing, and system programming. Improper installation voids most warranties and can cause water damage.
