Goodman was acquired by Daikin in 2012 and is now part of Daikin's North American residential lineup. The Goodman brand has been repositioned as Daikin's value channel: similar core platforms to Daikin units, packaged at a lower price point with more conservative trim and electronics.
Goodman's reputation has improved markedly in the last decade as Daikin engineering has filtered into the platforms. Modern Goodman units (post-2020) use the same Daikin-derived inverter compressors on the high-efficiency lines and have closed most of the historical reliability gap with Trane and Carrier.
For Utah homes, Goodman is the right call when upfront cost is the primary constraint, the homeowner is staying 5-10 years (not 15+), and the home doesn't need top-tier humidity control or peak efficiency.
